One thing that I have learned in my first semester of University is that not everything in life was initially corrupted. I have never seen the world the way I do now because the scope of my worldview has increased.
The definition of a worldview from Google is...
"A particular philosophy of life or conception of the world."
In simpler terms a worldview is how someone views the world. Everyone sees the world in a different way because everyone's mind is different. Other roles that play into someone's worldview are things such as ethnicity or ethnic background, religion or other beliefs, morals, standards, expectations, family influences, relationships with others, behaviours in society, and so on.
In my class, "Introduction to Reformed Worldview" we were taught that money, power, love, and sex were initially created for good and to be used for good. We discussed how human beings have twisted and corrupted them. You do not have to be a Christian or religious to accept and understand the facts on how human beings have corrupted these good things. Knowledge is not restricted to any person.
Money, power, love, and sex are not the only examples of things that have been corrupted in life.
Other examples include; friendships, romantic relationships, truth, and family relationships.
If you are interested in reading more about these topics in detail you can check out "Counterfeit Gods" by Timothy Keller. Site is linked below.
I highly recommend reading it and if you need further assistance understanding it, feel free to connect through the forums or through the contact section of my website. There are other sources available online as well.
If you have more examples of good things that have been corrupted please feel free to add them to the Forum section of this website.
Topic Example | Description |
1. Money | -Discusses the use of consumerism and how we are drawn in by materialistic items. Talks about how we have lost value for more important things in the world. -The "importance" that we give of how our image looks to others. |
2. Power | -Describing how power can manipulate us into achieving the opposite of what we originally wanted to achieve. |
3. Love | -Describing the different types of love and where love can be found. Ex: Music, theatre, story telling, etc. -Talks about the desperation for love that we all crave. |
4. Sex | -Talks about the new "Hookup" culture we now live in. -Discusses the original purpose of sex and why it was created. Why we should shy away from hookup culture and the unhealthy outcomes it can lead to. |
While these descriptions are only a small portion of what the book discusses, they are all extremely important. I hope you guys find this interesting and use your own time to do more research on these topics as well as taking a look at the book.
